CEC MPD Mentorship

Take your career into your own hands.

Professional development for the people leading nursing excellence.

Build the confidence, judgment, and practical skills to lead the work in real life.

The story
Why this program exists

I know what it feels like to start this role unprepared.

This mentorship was built from that experience, and from years of helping other MPDs find their footing.

Franklin's mentorship story Franklin’s story · 90 seconds
The real problem

Nobody teaches you how to do the job in real life.

You can find courses about Magnet, articles about shared governance, webinars about data, and books about leadership. What you cannot find is the person who shows you how those pieces become one role, in your hospital, on a real timeline. Most people in this work learn by trial and error, alone.

01

Translate expectations into operational work.

Move from what the manual says to what your organization actually does next.

02

Lead people, structures, stories, and outcomes at the same time.

The role is integration. Every responsibility touches the others.

03

Prepare for what is coming instead of reacting to the next deadline.

Confidence comes from seeing the road, not just the next turn.

What mentorship changes

The work becomes a development plan, not a private struggle.

Your mentorship starts with where you actually are, then builds a visible path forward. Every session, assignment, and note lives in one place you can see.

Starting Point

A baseline of your role, stage, and goals

Goals

Short and long term, defined together

30/60/90 plan

A personalized development plan

Reflection

The monthly rhythm

One focused 90-minute session each month.

The agenda responds to what is actually happening in your role. It is a rhythm, not a rigid curriculum.

STEP 1

Review the previous month’s work.

STEP 2

Discuss current challenges and new priorities.

STEP 3

Review assignments and progress.

STEP 4

Practice or apply a skill to real work.

STEP 5

Set the next action and update the development plan.

Between sessions, you apply the work and stay connected by email.

Hospital-sponsored mentorship

Sponsored by your organization

Quote-based scoped to your MPD and timeline
  • Still professional development, not full consulting
  • Your organization and you define approved areas where real projects and documents may be discussed
  • Structure adjusts to role, timeline, and organizational expectations
  • Additional features or frequency scoped in the quote
  • A clear way for a CNO to support a new MPD

Sponsorship starts with the same fit and goal-setting conversation.

Start a sponsorship conversation

Mentorship develops the MPD. Consulting scopes and delivers organizational work.

Mentorship does not transfer ownership of your Magnet program, rewrite documents, prepare full submissions, represent you to ANCC, or guarantee a designation outcome. MPD Studio is a separate technology and consulting path.

Every mentorship begins with a 30-minute fit and goal-setting conversation No public checkout No session rollover Reschedule with at least 24 hours’ notice; emergencies are handled case by case
Where this takes you

What progress looks like after six months.

More confidence navigating the MPD or nursing-excellence role.

Better understanding of why the work is done, not only what the manual says.

Repeatable skills that apply to real writing, data, governance, evidence, and leadership work.

Clearer direction and priorities.

Greater ability to prepare for upcoming milestones rather than only react to them.

Visible progress toward personalized professional goals.

The approach is informed by novice-to-expert progression and experiential learning: real experience, reflection, structured goals, and guidance, moving you toward increasingly independent practice at your own pace.

Franklin is a long-time Magnet Program Director and national consultant. His experience includes multiple successful designation cycles, first-time and redesignation work, national MPD mentorship, collaboration with ANCC and major data partners, evidence-based practice mentorship, writing and data support, and work with MPDs in the United States and internationally.

“I started as an MPD who felt underprepared, and imposter syndrome was real. Mentorship, experience, and support helped me grow into the role. I built this service because I recognize the same uncertainty in many MPDs, and I believe no one should have to learn this work through isolation and trial and error.”

From the people who lead this work
“

You talked me off many a ledge and kept us on a steady course through redesignation. We would have been in a very different place without your guidance and support.

Magnet Program Director
“

Your guidance, clear communication, and proactive support made a meaningful difference. Your partnership was truly valued and helped make the process more efficient and manageable.

Chief Nursing Officer
“

Your expertise was invaluable in helping us finish clear, concise, and compelling work on time. Every MPD should have access to this kind of advice and support.

Questions

Frequently asked

Who is MPD mentorship for?

New and developing Magnet Program Directors, nurses leading or entering nursing excellence roles, nurses intentionally building toward those roles, experienced MPDs who want structure for the next level, CNOs sponsoring a new MPD, and international nursing excellence leaders.

Do I have to be a current Magnet Program Director?

No. The service is relevant to people leading or aspiring to broader nursing excellence work, whatever the exact job title.

Can I join privately, without organizational sponsorship?

Yes. Personal mentorship is $250 per month and includes one 90-minute mentorship session each active month. CEC keeps the relationship private from its side, and whether you tell your organization is your decision. You never need to share confidential hospital documents; sessions can focus on the skills, decisions, and leadership situations underneath the work.

What changes if my hospital sponsors me?

The relationship stays professional development. You and your organization define approved areas where actual projects, documents, or artifacts may be discussed, and the structure adjusts to your role and timeline. Sponsored mentorship is quote-based so scope can be set correctly.

Is mentorship the same as consulting?

No. Mentorship develops the MPD. Consulting scopes and delivers organizational work. Mentorship does not transfer ownership of your Magnet program to CEC, and it does not include document rewriting, full submission preparation, ANCC representation, or a guaranteed designation outcome.

What is included each month?

One 90-minute session with preparation and post-session notes, your mentorship workspace with goals, a 30/60/90-day plan, assignments, and progress tracking, email communication between sessions, and access to CEC Academy resources and webinars while mentorship is active.

What happens if I need another meeting?

You can request additional 90-minute sessions at $100 each, subject to availability. Sessions do not roll over between months. Rescheduling requires at least 24 hours’ notice; emergencies are handled case by case.

Can I cancel at any time?

Yes. Mentorship is month-to-month. Your access stays active through the period you have paid for.

What happens to my workspace and records after cancellation?

You keep read-only access through your active paid period and can download your development record. CEC retains the record for 30 days after the cancellation month and then deletes it.

Is MPD Studio included?

No. MPD Studio is a separate technology and consulting path. Mentorship focuses on developing you in the role.

Can international MPDs participate?

Yes. CEC already supports MPDs internationally, scheduling accommodates time zones, and the mentorship adapts to your local context and Magnet stage.

Is the mentorship available in languages other than English?

The working language is English.
